Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs)

Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMOs) are international organisation through which States, Territories and other Entities can cooperate in order to ensure the effective management and use of fisheries resources.

This is important for highly migratory fisheries, and for fisheries that occur in international waters. With a number of TVMs’ key fisheries doing both, it’s easy to see why TVM Participants dedicate considerable resources toward working with other States, Territories and Entities, through RFMOs such as the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC), to try and ensure the effective management and use of fisheries, in which TVM has an interest.
